Viktor Pátan was born in Lodz, Poland, in 1976 and grew up in Germany.
After studying at the European Academy of Arts in Warsaw he moved to Berlin in 1999.
The creation process that leads to his main work is inspired by coincidence and theories from quantum physics. As in quantum physics, the matter in his pictures is not fixed: Rather it is like packets of energy in microscopic-parts in endless movement. This core work containing over 200 pictures, that occurred by coincidence (his digital camera broke) is minimalist, and free from conventional manufacturing and artistic attitude.
“These pictures were no longer photography for me and I decided to ban them on canvas or wood with digital techniques. For me it is not enough to live in the present to do contemporary art – you need to find something that really represents the present, something that could only have happened now.”
